SAFETY & SECURITY DECLARATIONS

Safety and security declarations will be required on all imports into the UK from 31st January 2025

What is a safety and security declaration
Safety and Security declarations or sometimes known as ENS, is another clearance document that will need to be raised for all goods coming into the UK. This is a condensed version of an import clearance and only captures the specific data that customs will use to risk assess each consignment entering the UK. From this risk assessment they will either release immediately on arrival or pull for document checks, at this point they will consult the full import clearance and then decide whether to release or request an inspection. The main role of this additional procedure is to analyse the potential risk of certain goods crossing the border. In GB S&S data is used by border force along with other intelligence, to identify high risk consignments to be subject to checks at the border.

What information does S&S include
Safety and security declarations contain information about the business, the sender, the receiver, the goods, the carrier (company transporting the goods), the type of transport, the journey details, all of which are used to assess risk in the UK.

What do we need to generate an S&S declaration
We should be able to generate the ENS from the standard information you provide us with for an import clearance, however in addition we will need - routing countries, carriers details (EORI number and address if a non UK haulier), truck plates as well as estimated date / time of arrival into the UK.

What happens once the declaration has been lodged
Once submitted, your S&S declaration will generate a movement reference number (MRN) which can then be used to generate a GMR. (This is not a requirement at present). The declaration will be risk assessed and if no further interventions are required the goods can continue with their journey.
